My work is rooted in direct observation — the light of Oaxaca's valleys, the texture of its streets, the weight of its mountains at different hours. Each painting begins with time spent looking, and ends with something I couldn't have planned in advance.

I've been painting in Oaxaca, Mexico for the past several years. The landscape here is generous and unforgiving. It doesn't hold still, and I don't try to make it. I'm interested in what happens when you commit to a scene before you fully understand it.

These paintings are made slowly, mostly outdoors, in places I've visited many times. The familiarity matters. The first time you see somewhere, you paint what you think it looks like. The tenth time, you have a chance at something true.

Originals are available for purchase through direct inquiry. I work in oil and acrylic on canvas and board. Commissions are accepted for landscapes and portraiture. I ship worldwide from Oaxaca.
